Flowcrete UK Wins FeRFA’s Large Project of the Year Award

27th November 2013 Industry News

Flowcrete and Polydeck jointly won the Large Project of the Year at the FeRFA Awards 2013 on Friday 15th November.

We won the award for a project completed at Southmead Hospital earlier this year, where 4,000m² of Peran STB was installed in the facility’s Brunel Building, thanks to the beautiful finish and high level of customer satisfaction achieved despite difficult operational parameters.

The Brunel Building has been designed to provide a modern and nation-leading medical resource. It has more en-suite rooms than any other NHS hospital to help limit the spread of infections and increase patient privacy.

The project presented several challenges, especially as a combination of factors including budget constraints, installation issues and construction delays had combined to restrict the amount of time available for the applicator teams.

During the installation, site access restrictions, cold temperatures and strict doorway-airflow tolerances had to be accommodated for. The system also had to be incredibly flat throughout, with only 1mm tolerances, as well as seamless so that it met the hospital’s high hygiene standards. Coved skirting with stainless trims was used to ensure a seamless finish.

Customer satisfaction is an important priority for us and so to meet the tight deadline we had to quickly manufacture and deliver all of the required solution. To ensure a consistent and high quality finish the entire product came from the same batch, which was installed by two specialist teams of layers and sealers working consecutively on site.

Peran STB was chosen as it can be rapidly installed and provides a hygienic, decorative floor that is able to withstand high traffic levels, abrasion, chemical spillage and general wear. It was put into 12 operating theatres, two main kitchens, corridors and various side rooms within an 8 week period.
