The Southeast Asian railway industry has had a real shot in the arm recently with a series of major infrastructure announcements that total in the hundreds of billions of US dollars!
Among the plans in the pipeline is a high speed rail network that will start at Kunming in China and run through Vietnam, Laos, Cambodia, Thailand, Malaysia and Singapore. Alongside this four major cities will be boosting their metro and MRT systems over the next 15 years and Thailand alone plans to spend $68 billion upgrading its infrastructure and building 6 new metro lines in Bangkok.
These developments have been put in place to support the region’s significant GDP growth and increasing population size, as both of these factors have knock on effects on the suitability and capabilities of rail networks.
To give the rail industry a platform to discuss these developments Exporail will be hosted in partnership with the Thailand Ministry of Transport at the Bangkok International Trade and Exhibition Centre. The organisers of the exhibit said they chose Bangkok as it’s a recognised hub and interchange for the region and also “boasts the largest projects and plans”.
World leading railway equipment, technologies and systems suppliers, covering everything from rolling stock, signalling, infrastructure and communications will be able to discuss international best practise and the development plans with government authorities and other transport professionals. The Thailand government is eager to use the exhibit to ascertain which suppliers will be able to best help them deliver the optimum value for network users and taxpayers.
The team at Flowcrete Asia are looking forward to attending the event to talk about the Flowfast Rapid Transit system – a specialist resin flooring range designed to meet the complex requirements of railway platforms.
This Flowcrete system has been designed to provide a number of benefits to large scale rail infrastructure projects. Not only can it withstand the long-term strains of railway stations but it can also be rapidly installed, allowing for follow on work to start again much sooner than usual. This is a great asset when there’s a massive project running to a very tight schedule that can’t afford delays in the schedule.
