Scotland’s Construction Industry Hits New Heights

The Scottish construction industry is currently celebrating a record breaking year, as it achieved its highest ever output in the 12 months to June.

According to the Office for National Statistics output rose by 20% over that period, which took the total output value of the nation’s construction industry to more than £13 billion!

This rise was seen across every sector of the industry, with infrastructure posting an incredible 60% rise in value and public sector work other than housing and infrastructure increasing 29%.

This tallies with a recent report by the Federation of Master Builders (FMB). In a weighted, composite measure that combines workload, expected workload and enquiries, Scotland’s net balance increased by 10 points to 14% – which was the highest return since the end of 2007.

And the future is looking brighter still, with an anticipated £40 billion worth of contracts to be awarded over the coming years for both housing and infrastructure development. In fact, the government’s Infrastructure Investment Plan has set aside substantial capital to invest in numerous large-scale projects that will upgrade the nation’s transport, housing, healthcare and education sectors.

Scotland Build, taking place at the SECC in Glasgow on the 25th & 26th November is highlighting the success of the country’s construction industry.  This two-day trade show and conference will be featuring the leading contractors and suppliers who are facilitating the sector’s boom.

Flowcrete UK will be attending the show, on stand 7, to discuss with architects, designers and developers about how they can streamline the complex flooring specification process for major construction projects using the resin flooring manufacturer’s Floorzone solution.

The Floorzone allows specifiers to choose every element of the floor build-up, from the substrate to the final finish, all from one supplier and under one warranty. The variety of sustainable, high-performance screeds and resin finishes on offer combined with the ability to incorporate underfloor heating and acoustic insulation is ideal for creating a surface tailored to each site’s specific requirements.
