K is for Kennels

Providing a safe, hygienic and comforting environment for our four-legged furry friends is important to their care and well-being, whether in a boarding kennel, veterinary surgery or a welfare facility.

According to the RSPCA Guidelines for the design and maintenance of animal shelters, “To guard against infection, all floors should have a smooth, impervious surface“. This helps ensure the kennels, internal walkways and clinical rooms are hygienic and easy to clean.

A polyurethane resin based flooring system will not only be smooth and impervious, but has the added benefit of chemical resistance. Animal urine and cleaning agents are often highly corrosive and other flooring solutions may not stand up against the chemical attack.

Additionally the RSPCA guidelines state that “Floors should slope towards a drain that is outside the animal living areas”. This gradient in the floor ensures there is no ponding of liquid, which can harbour bacteria and pests.

To further protect your facility, coving and wall coatings should be introduced to ensure there is no gaps and cracks for pests to breed. Floor to wall coving removes the sharp right angle, creating a curve which is easy to clean, ensuring the facility can reach key hygiene requirements.

Our seamless and non-porous resin flooring systems have been designed to cope with the daily challenges of these environments, from basic hygiene and safety right through to aesthetics and general maintenance. Contact our team to see how we can help with your next animal care facility.
