Q is for Quartz

Quartz is composed of silicon dioxide and is one of the most well known minerals used throughout the building and construction industry.

In the flooring space, coloured quartz granules are used as a decorative flooring solution which has the added benefit of creating a textured non-slip platform underfoot – providing superior slip resistance when required. The level of non-slip achieved can change depending on the installation method – whether the quartz is broadcast into wet resin or mixed into the resin and then trowel applied.

As quartz is a naturally occurring mineral, there are a range of natural colours and blends available. However if your project requires specific branding or design colours, bespoke coloured quartz solutions are also available. A typical quartz blend like the Flowfast Quartz Scatter Blue colour, features similar coloured quartz aggregates such as grey with one stand-out feature colour. This creates a speckled finish. Another option is to use just one colour to create a monochromatic finish.

Decorative quartz resin based flooring solutions are suitable for a variety of industries as they provide a non-slip, abrasion and impact resistance. Depending on what type of resin is used within the flooring matrix, added benefits can include UV, chemical and antimicrobial resistance.

Perth Train Station utilised custom coloured quartz aggregates within a rapid curing resin flooring system to creating a striking design across the station concourse areas. You can see this installation at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UluO-Apf6tc.
