How to Make the Most of the School Holidays

6th November 2017 Be Inspired

As we wind down to enjoy the Christmas break, the long holiday in Australia provides the perfect opportunity for educational facilities to upgrade and refurbish areas around the premises, as well as undertake new-build projects and additions.

Flooring across foyers, classrooms, tuck-shops, food facilities, maintenance rooms, swimming pools, amenity buildings and office areas shouldn’t be overlooked during this shut-down period, as it’s the perfect time to revamp existing flooring.

Typical educational flooring is often overlooked by students as something to simply walk on, however the flexibility of resin flooring allows for extensive design potential.

Australian Paint Approval Scheme (APAS) approved systems like Mondéco or Kristalina not only meet stringent performance specifications; they also provide facilities with a multitude of design options.

Bespoke colours such as key branding hues and facility logos can be incorporated in the floors design or custom decorative flake blends can be created to complement surrounding designs.

Nothing grabs your attention like a bright colour and educational spaces are the perfect environments to create impact through colour. Bold colour choices can help to inspire students and stimulate creativity – perfect for art classrooms and breakout zones.

As well as their colourful design potential they also reap several safety benefits. Colour can be used to create visual cues for students and teachers and along with demarcation can provide navigational instructions. Colour zoning can be used in workshops, plant rooms, maintenance areas and walkways to provide a safe environment and capture attention. In fact, according to Xerox, adding colour to safety notices and warnings has been shown to increase recall of that information by up to 82%.

However, resin flooring systems don’t just need to look great, they also need to provide a host of performance benefits in these testing environments. Slip resistant, hygienic, durable and easy-to-maintain are all key properties to consider when selecting the right floor for educational environments.

Primary and high school tuck shops along with food and cafe facilities across universities need to ensure they maintain strict hygiene practices.

HACCP International certified flooring system can help reach hygiene goals as well as provide peace-of-mind. Antimicrobial additives can also be incorporated into some resin flooring solutions like Flowfresh, providing additional protection against bacteria, mould and mildew.
