Investing in Epoxy Flooring

Epoxy Flooring Part 1: A Solid Investment

Epoxy floor coatings are extremely hardwearing and often seamless surfaces. Thanks to their robust nature, this flooring system is often found in areas of industry, such as in packaging or processing factories. Recently, epoxy systems have also been utilised in more commercial and residential spaces, especially in areas of high footfall or where machinery is present such as laundry shops, laundry rooms and garages.

Benefits of Epoxy

In areas where water is often present, such as laundry rooms, epoxy floor coatings can be extremely beneficial. Whether exposed to water from damp washing, or through a leak from laundry machines, epoxy systems with slip resistance can be specified to reduce the risk of slipping and keep the area safe. What’s more, the impervious nature of this flooring system means that surfaces will not be infiltrated by certain liquid or gases, and can easily be cleaned to remove any unsavoury organic matter brought into living spaces via dirty water. This allows for sites to be returned to use quickly.

Laundry rooms often need to be kept clean to avoid dust and lint from fabrics sticking to freshly washed clothes. Cleaning chemicals can be abrasive on some flooring systems, whereas epoxy systems can be specified with chemical resistance to help combat this.

Aside from regular cleaning, as with any floor, epoxy is relatively low maintenance, meaning that you will not have to go to special lengths to ensure that the floor is functioning as it should be. A simple foam sponge, dust mop, push broom, pH-neutral cleaner and paper towels should be the only cleaning materials needed to keep up the polished look of your floor. Accidental spills can easily be cleaned up with paper towels, and thanks to the stain resistance of some epoxy systems, you can rest assured that your floor will come up as good as new.

Investments

It is not just businesses that can take advantage of the properties of epoxy flooring, as this material is also well suited to residential complexes and homes.

When building or remodeling a home, many people neglect solid flooring in areas such as basements, garages, workshops, storerooms and laundry rooms, with some leaving the designer or contractor to suggest the best flooring options for such spaces. Budget is generally a deciding factor for these rooms, and if budgets are tight then ill-performing choices could be made.

Whilst some people think that epoxy floors are too costly, the long-lasting nature and durability make them much more of an investment than a frivolous purchase. For residential areas that are at risk of flooding for example, utilising materials that can help to reduce the damage caused by such disasters is of utmost importance. Specifying water resistant materials would be extremely beneficial in these circumstances, as the floor would be able to withstand exposure to water if flooding occurs, and will also be non-porous to avoid infiltration of water. Epoxy coatings are adept at decreasing the likelihood for mold and bacteria growth, especially when compared to materials such as carpet or wood, which would absorb surface water and could harbor bacterial growth more readily.

It’s cool that slip-resistant epoxy flooring can keep you from slipping in wet conditions. My brother frequently drives his truck into his garage during a rainstorm but finds that it is difficult to get out because of the slippery surface. I will make sure to tell him that he can get a slip-resistant epoxy flooring for his garage so he no longer slips during rainstorms!
