Put a Sparkle in Your Step

There is something about darker nights that leads to twinkling lights. Whether you’re into strings of fairy lights or a slight sparkle, let’s see how your floor can add to the shimmering effect.

Sparkling aggregates in flooring are most commonly found in commercial spaces such as shopping centres, restaurants and stores. If you’re looking to add some glamour to your space, aggregates could be the way to go!

Shopping centre sparkle !

This style of flooring is most often called terrazzo, a composite material which consists of a cementitious or polyurethane binder alongside aggregates that can include glass, marble, mother of pearl, granite, quartz or other suitable materials.

Many aggregates catch and reflect light

You can just imagine twinkling lights bouncing off the glass and quartz aggregates, creating a glistening effect in any space.

Many commercial spaces utilise the design flexibility to its maximum.

The example above has used two complementary colours to reflect the logo of the shopping centre. Being able to reflect brand identity using the largest canvas at their disposal was a big deciding factor for the flooring solution here.

Though looking extremely expensive, terrazzo is most often made up of reused or recycled materials! In fact, up to 60% of a terrazzo floor’s composition can be aggregate content, all of which can represent pre or post-consumer waste including recycled glass or mother of pearl chips from stone-processing plants!

Good looking and good for the environment

Aside from the obvious decorative aspects of the floor, such flooring materials like terrazzo are incredibly hard-wearing, and lend themselves to areas of high footfall and various types of traffic.

Thanks to this flooring materials seamless nature, the floor can also be cleaned very quickly and easily, with no joints for dirt to hide in. Whilst hygiene is of course important, this also means that stores can leave a great first impression to potential customers by presenting a clean and fresh shopping environment.

Look how those aggregates sparkle

Other benefits to high quality terrazzo include high abrasion resistance, meaning that dropped hangers, falling displays or tumbling stock can easily be handled by the floor.

Some types of terrazzo even incorporate antistatic properties, meaning that customers can focus on putting a sparkle back in their step rather than incontrollable static shocks or unruly hair!

So, if you’d like to add a little more sparkle to your space, a tad more fun to your facility or a luxurious vibe to your venue – try terrazzo!
